The Suez Canal side did not disclose the terms of the deal but media outlets reported that Garrido, who has been a free agent since leaving Spanish club CD Castellón in May, agreed to a two-year contract.

Garrido returns to Egypt after guiding Ahly in the 2014/2015 season to win both the African Confederation Cup and the Egyptian Super Cup.

His CV includes coaching various premier clubs, including Villarreal (Spain), Club Brugge (Belgium), Real Betis (Spain), Al-Ettifaq (Saudi Arabia), Raja (Morocco), Al-Ain (UAE), Étoile du Sahel (Tunisia), and Wydad of Morocco.

The popular Dervishes, the first-ever Egyptian side to win an African championship title and also winners of various domestic titles, narrowly escaped relegation in the Egyptian Premier League last year, finishing in 13th place with 38 points, winning 10, drawing in 11, and losing 13.

They have signed seven new players in the summer transfer window as management rebuilds in hope of a comeback season.
