Shoukry highlighted the negative repercussions of the crisis on the international economy, especially the impact of energy and food crises on developing countries, including Egypt, said the spokesman of the foreign ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The war that started on 24 February has caused a disruption in supply chains leading to a surge in the prices of commodities and petroleum products worldwide.

The meeting with Lavrov was held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly and tackled the latest developments of the Ukrainian crisis and a number of issues of mutual concern.

Shoukry and Lavrov discussed means to boost Egyptian-Russian ties to serve the interests of both countries, Abu Zeid added.

They also touched upon regional issues, including the latest developments in Libya, Syria, Iraq, and Palestine, stressing the need to bring about stability in the Middle East.
