Shoukry made the remarks in a meeting on Thursday with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.

For his part, Mikati called on Egypt to continue its support to Lebanon at the regional and international levels.

The meeting agreed on continuing coordination and consultations between Cairo and Beirut during the coming period that will see important political and constitutional entitlements in Lebanon, the statement said.

The term of incumbent President Michel Aoun ends in on 31 October.

In recent months, Egypt has provided economic and medical aid to the Lebanon to help the country deal with impact of the coronavirus pandemic as well as the repercussions of the disastrous blast in the Beirut port in 2020.

In June, Lebanon signed a deal with Egypt to import natural gas from the Egyptian territories via Syria in order to overcome its energy crisis.
