“The players will fight to win all trophies in the next season especially the CAF Champions League and the domestic league to please Ahly’s loyal fans,” El-Shahat said during an interview with the club’s official website.
Ahly had a season to forget last year, missing out on what would have been a historic third-in-a-row African Champions League title after losing to Morocco's Wydad in late May before finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League – their worst ranking in the local competition in 30 years.
“The new season will be a big challenge for Ahly players who pledged to do their best to recoup the titles they lost in the last season,” he added.
The 30-year-old winger missed Ahly’s critical games in the last weeks of the season with a knee injury.
“I am cleared fit to take part in the new season’s games after I spent difficult days due to injury,” El-Shahat said.
Ahly will start their official mission for the new season against Tunisian side US Monastir in the African Champions League round of 32 on 9 October, a few days before starting the new season of the Egyptian Premier League.
“All Ahly players are optimistic ahead of the new season as we all agreed to make use of the ongoing preparatory camp to be ready for the games as well as making up what happened in the last season,” the Ahly’s veteran winger added.
“The next season’s competition is expected to be difficult after the teams signed new players to support their squads” he added.
“I had three medals in the FIFA Club World Cup, two medals with Ahly and one with UAE’s Al-Ain so I am looking forward to claim the gold medal in next participation,” Hussein El-Shahat concluded.
