Marmoush shines as Egypt crush Liberia 3-0 in friendly

Omar Marmoush scored and dished out an assist as Egypt, missing Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, made it two wins out of two under Rui Vitoria after crushing Liberia 3-0 at Alexandria Stadium in a friendly game on Tuesday.

Wolfsburg winger Marmoush, Egypt's best performer of the night, opened the scoring with a bouncing shot seven minutes before the break.

His corner was also headed home by Ahly's central defender Mohamed Abdel-Moneim 12 minutes into the second half before Turkish-based striker Ahmed Kouka, who was otherwise wasteful, converted a stoppage-time penalty for his first goal with Egypt since 2015, having gone 22 matches without scoring.

It was another convincing victory from the Pharaohs under new coach Vitoria following a 3-0 home win over Niger on Friday.

The Portuguese boss will face his first tough test when Egypt play Belgium in a high-profile friendly in November, a few days before the World Cup gets underway.

Egypt played without Salah and Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed against Liberia after both were rested but still mounted an onslaught from the outset and were unlucky not to go ahead on at least two occasions.

Kouka, who joined Alanyaspor on loan from Greek side Olympiacos in the close season, was released by a threaded pass from Mahmoud Trezeguet as early as the ninth minute but his low shot was smothered by keeper Tommy Songo in a one-on-one.

Trezeguet's header from a Kouka flick also came back off the post before Marmoush made Egypt's dominance count on 38 minutes, his bouncing long-range effort taking a deflection and wrong-footing Songo.

Egypt almost went two up three minutes before the break but Trezeguet astonishingly missed an open net when his sliding shot struck the bar after an inviting low cross from Marmoush.

Abdel-Moneim made amends in the 57th minute when he towered at the near post to glance Marmoush's inswinging corner into the net.

Egypt took their foot off the gas pedal after doubling their lead but Kouka still made it 3-0 just before the end when he sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot after substitute Ben Benaiah blocked a goal-bound shot from Eslam Eissa with his arm.
