The Red Devils will launch their champions League campaign on Sunday when they face Tunisian side US Monastir away from home in the first leg of the competition’s round of 32, with the second leg to be held one week later in Cairo.

Swiss coach Marcel Koller, who took charge of the team last month, named on Thursday his 22-man list for the game, which saw the appearance of the new duo.

Savio joined Ahly from Bolivian side Bolivar, while Shadi Hussein moved from Egyptian league side Ceramica Cleopatra.

Winger Mostafa Saad, who also joined Ahly from Ceramica Cleopatra in this summer transfer window, was dropped from the squad due to technical reasons.

The list saw the absence of defender Rami Rabie and South African winger Percy Tau.

Rabie was suspended for two games after receiving a red card during Ahly's 2-0 loss to Wydad de Casablanca in the champions league final last season.

However, the South African is yet to regain his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a muscle injury.

The list also saw the appearance of midfielder Akram Tawfiq for the first time after recovering from a knee injury that rendered him unavailable for around nine months.

Tawfiq sustained his injury while playing with the Pharaohs against Nigeria in the outgoing Africa Cup of Nations opener last January.

His return gives the team coach many options given his ability to play as a defensive midfielder and a fullback.

After a season to forget last season, Ahly are bidding for their eleventh champions league title after losing the final to Wydad de Casablanca last term.
