The Ministry issued a warning on Tuesday to Egyptian citizens against travelling to Ukraine due to recent political, military and security developments in the country.

The statement posted on the ministry's Facebook page said that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry instructed the Egyptian embassy in Ukraine to contact all the members of the Egyptian community in the country and to urge them to take extreme precautions and to stay put.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also advised Egyptians in Ukraine to avoid dangerous places and to secure basic necessities in case the situation deteriorates.

Earlier this week Russia escalated its attack on Ukraine after the Ukrainian bombing of Crimea’s Kerch bridge.

With the beginning of the Russian invasion on 24 February, Egypt launched an air-lift to evacuate Egyptians in the war-torn Ukraine via neighbouring countries.

Around 6,000 Egyptians were residing in Ukraine before the war broke out, most of whom were students, according to officials.

At present less than 100 Egyptian students remain in Ukraine, newly appointed Minister of Emigration Soha Samir told a cabinet meeting earlier in August.
