Amna stated that governors have been directed to form committees to monitor the condition of dams, canals and drains and ensure they are ready for heavy rainfall.

Moreover, he tasked officials in the ministry’s operations rooms with crisis management. They will be responsible for following up on developments in the governorates around-the-clock and quickly dealing with any emergency events in coordination with the central operations room in the cabinet.

He noted that the governorates continue to take several measures to deal with any expected accumulations and spillways over rains in streets in coordination between the local units and the Water and Sanitation Company.

Amna stressed the importance of following up on rainwater suction works to clear water from roadways, whether from main or side streets.

The ministers statement came as light to moderate rainfall is expected along parts of the country’s northern coasts through Tuesday, according to the forecast by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) on Friday.
