The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Indian Ambassador in Cairo Ajit Gupte. El-Sisi hailed the historic relations between the two countries, saying Egypt holds India in high esteem given its status as one of the world’s ancient civilisations and for its great contributions in all fields.

Jaishankar conveyed a message to El-Sisi from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he praised the depth of relations between India and Egypt.

In his message, the Indian prime minister said that his country looks forward to exploring new horizons for fruitful cooperation with Egypt, particularly in light of Egypt’s status as a cornerstone for stability in the Middle East and the African continent as well as the immense and remarkable development achievements realised over the past years in Egypt across an array of levels.

The meeting focused on joint industrialisation efforts and the exchange of military expertise as well as the exchange of strategic goods between the two countries, in addition to cooperation in technological education, as well as boosting the size and scope of Indian companies’ investment in Egypt.

President El-Sisi and India's top diplomat reviewed the latest regional and international developments, particularly the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on the sectors of energy, food and economy.

On Saturday, Jaishankar invited Egypt to attend the G20 summit meeting in New Delhi, saying that Egypt will add “great value” to the G20 meetings, and that the issues to be discussed at the summit include climate change and supporting developing countries.

In a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, the Indian FM also said that Egypt and India have agreed to “increase trade and cooperation between the Egyptian and Indian markets as well as the investments between them,” adding that Indian investments in Egypt exceed $3 billion.

“Last year was our highest-ever trade in excess of $7.2 billion,” he said.

The top diplomats also discussed boosting tourism between the two countries.
