He came ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappe, 6th, Eling Haaland, 10th, and Cristiano Ronaldo who ended up at his worst position ever in the 20th place.
The Pharaohs captain improved on his 2021 ranking where he ended in the 7th place.
Salah did not attend the ceremony that was held at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris.
This is the fourth time Salah has been nominated for this award. In 2018 he finished sixth and in 2019 fifth. The award was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021 Salah finished seventh.
Salah is the only Egyptian player to have been nominated for this award, which was established in 1956.
In his fifth season at Liverpool, the 30-year-old bagged another remarkable season at Anfield.
He helped the Reds win the FA and League Cup. In the same season, Liverpool were the runners up to Man City in the Premier League and to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Salah won the Golden Boot in the Premier League with a tally of 23 goals.
On the international level, however, Salah did not fare as well with the Egyptian national team, as Egypt lost to Senegal in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations and also failed to qualify for the World Cup 2022.
