The JCC is taking place between 29 October to 5 November at Carthage, the seaside suburb of Tunisia’s capital Tunis.
Egyptian film Sharaf, directed by Samir Nasr, has been unveiled among the 12 films of the official Narrative Feature competition.
In the 12-film Short Narrative competition, two Egyptian films are participating; Ahmed Abdelsalam’s CAI-BER and Maggie Kamal’s Microbus.
In the Short Documentary competition, two Egyptian films are competing among a total of eight films; Chenaoui Amir’s Edris and Anas Salaheldin’s Sanftes Blech.
Finally, Ahmed Nader’s Maze is competing among the 12 other selections in the Carthage Cine Promises competition.
The festival will also honour acclaimed Egyptian writer and director Daoud Abdel-Sayed, screening two of his most important films; Looking for Sayed Marzouk (1991), Citizen, Informer, and Thief (2001).
Moreover, Egyptian actress Bushra is a member of the long feature competition jury while Egyptian critic Kamal Ramzy is among the jury members of the Critics Week
Under new crew of Director General Sonia Chamkhi and Artistic Director Ibrahim Letaeif, the festival will showcase 599 movies from 72 countries.
While Saudi Arabia is this edition’s guest of honor, Moroccan film Fatema the Unforgettable Sultana (2021), directed by Mohammed Abderrahman Tazi, will be the opening film.
The festival will host talks, workshops, exhibitions as well as screening of dozens of films through other programs like; On the Road, Focus Palestine, Focus Espagne, Cinemas of the World, Horizons of Tunisian Cinema, Ciné Avenue, JCC in Prisons, JCC in Barracks and other parallel programs.
