Egypt has invested billions to achieve food security for citizens: Agriculture minister

The state has spent hundreds of billions of pounds to implement several national projects in agriculture to achieve food security for citizens, affirmed Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister El- Sayed El-Quseir at the Economic Conference 2022.

His comments came during a session under the rubric "Setting milestones for a roadmap toward maximizing agricultural production and self-sufficiency levels" on the second day of the conference which is organised by the Cabinet under the title "A roadmap to a more competitive economy."

The agriculture sector has seen unprecedented progress during the era of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, El-Quseir added.

Addressing the session, El-Quseir stressed that the state has also taken several proactive measures that enabled it to confront the Covid-19 crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war.

The minister said that there are various agricultural investment opportunities available in Egypt, topped by land reclamation projects which include national projects such as the New Delta project on an area of one million feddans.

He pointed out that there is an integration between the goals of the sustainable agricultural development strategy with the goals of Egypt's Vision 2030 and the United Nations' goals for sustainable development.

The minister pointed out the decision of the World Organization for Animal Health to designate 37 poultry facilities in Egypt as completely free of bird flu priovides investment opportunities in the poultry wealth projects.
