To promote Egypt as a diverse tourist destination and enable COP27’s participants and guests to explore Sharm El-Sheikh’s diverse tourist attractions, the Sharm El-Sheikh Museum Will extend its visiting hours.

The museum will open from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm starting 5 November to 20 November, instead of its usual opening hours of 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri said that the move is part of the ministry’s efforts to promote tourism to Egypt and to show its diversity.

It will also give the COP27 participants the opportunity to explore Sharm El-Sheikh's different tourist attractions, as they can enjoy its warm beaches and magnificent natural scenery in the morning and learn about the great Egyptian civilisation by visiting the museum at night after the conference sessions.

The Sharm El-Sheikh Museum was inaugurated by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in 2020 and it is the first antiquities museum to be built in Sinai. The idea of building a museum in Sharm El-Sheikh was formed in 1999, and construction work began in 2003, although it stopped in 2011 in the aftermath of the 25 January Revolution.

Work resumed in early 2018, and it has now been completed to a budget of EGP 812 million. The museum puts on display around 5,200 artefacts, ranging from the pre-historic period to modern times, as well as showing the rich urban and tribal culture of Sinai inhabitants.

The museum sheds light on the role played by Egyptian civilisation across different historical periods.

It also highlights the relationship between the Egyptian people and their surrounding environment as well as their cultural interactions with other civilisations.
