The Arab countries represented by Mohieldin are Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, in addition to the Maldives.
Following his re-election, Mohieldin stated that his work will continue to support member states of the IMF to achieve their economic and development goals and push reform efforts to control inflation and maintain financial and monetary stability.
He added that he will continue to work to encourage private investments, which help countries achieve growth and sustainability goals and combat climate change.
Egypt’s high-level champion for climate action at the UN Climate Change COP27 stressed the importance of balanced politics to achieve development goals, especially combating poverty, creating jobs, and achieving equity in the distribution of income and wealth.
Mohieldin was named Egypt’s high-level champion for climate action in February.
The veteran Egyptian economist formerly served as Egypt’s minister of investment and international cooperation from 2004 to 2010.
