The COP27 music theme will be played at the opening of the conference and in the various halls of the venue.
Kharma, who also produced the score for COP27’s opening film, told Al-Ahram on Saturday that he worked for over a month to prepare the music.
“I used the nai and oud instruments in my arrangement to add an oriental flavour,” he said, adding that the string section and the vocal tracks by Clara Sorace were recorded and mixed abroad.
Sorace, an Italian cinematic singer, has recorded vocals for many commercial tracks, including for the video game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and for the official trailers for the hit Spanish TV series La Casa de Papel.
Born and raised in Cairo, Karma, a prominent composer and music producer, has worked in Miami, Hamburg, and Dubai. He performs regularly in Egypt and abroad with his band.
Known for blending oriental colours with electronic grooves, Kharma has released a number of albums including Kun, Al YaQeen, First Voyage, and Arabesque.
Kharma, who has collaborated with world renowned musicians including Yanni and Can Atilla, produced the official musical theme for the second Egyptian World Youth Forum in Sharm El-Sheikh in 2018.
He has also written scores for several TV series, including Al-Nehaya (The End, 2019) and Suits Bel-Arabi (2021), the Arabic adaptation of Suits, as well as the score for the film Mako (2021).
Kharma also has extensive experience in advertising, working frequently as a creative director to promote several brands.
Running until 18 November, COP27 is expected to be attended by more than 120 heads of state, delegations from around 200 countries, and over 40,000 other participants, the highest number ever for a climate summit on the continent.
