Egypt’s president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi appealed on Monday in his address at the opening session of world leaders’ summit at the COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh for an end the Russian-Ukrainian war, saying the whole world is suffering from the repercussions of the crisis.

"We are ready to work to stop the war, not in search for a role, but I imagine that all leaders share the same opinion of the need to stop the war," the Egyptian president said.

"We as countries without a strong economy have suffered a lot from the ramifications of the coronavirus crisis for two years and we have endured it."

"And now we suffer because of the Russia-Ukraine war. The whole world is suffering,” El-Sisi added.

“I call in my name, and, if you allow me, in your names: Let this war end and. This is a call from our conference. Let this destruction and killing end,” the president added.

The nine-month-old conflict has led to huge disruptions in Black Sea’s supply chain of fertilisers, wheat, natural gas and other commodities, sending global prices of many basic commodities soaring and precipitating an energy crisis in Europe and elsewhere.

Egypt has repeatedly called on Russia and Ukraine and all international players to reach a negotiated solution that takes into consideration the concerns of all parties and brings a halt to fighting and violence in order to ensure international stability and security.

In April, the Arab League Russia-Ukraine Crisis Liaison Group held separate talk with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Warsaw in an attempt to reach a diplomatic solution to the crisis.

The liaison group includes representatives from Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Iraq, Sudan and the UAE – a current member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)
