The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 27th UN Climate Change Summit (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh.

In a statement, El-Molla hailed the ministry's fruitful cooperation with US companies and US institutions operating in Egypt, including the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.

He said the US greatly supports the idea of drawing up an actionable road-map to reduce methane emissions. Reducing methane emissions, he said, will rank highly on the agenda of the De-carbonization Day, which will be held on Friday at COP27.

Pyatt said Egypt has what it takes to become a regional energy hub.

He applauded the establishment of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EastMed) as  an integrated regional cooperation platform that aims to obtain maximum benefit from the region's natural gas resources and infrastructure.

Pyatt also expressed his country's willingness to expand the scope of its renewable energy and Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) projects in Egypt.
