The flagship gathering of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG) will be organised in partnership with Egypt.
The MoU was signed between Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna and Secretary-General of the UCLG Pierre Elong Mbassi in the presence of Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The Africities event is held every three years in one of the five regions of Africa with the aim of promoting local governance and decentralisation in order to improve the living standards of African citizens.
Madbouly said Egypt's hosting of the upcoming Africities Summit comes within the framework of boosting cooperation and coordination at the African level upon the directives of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
He added that such summits support efforts towards non-centralisation and enhance governments' endeavours to develop Africa.
The previous Africities Summit was held in Kenya from 17-21 May, with the theme "The Role of Intermediary Cities of Africa in the Implementation of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations and the African Union Agenda 2063."
