22:00 Egypt is pushing to bridge the gaps between negotiating parties in order to finalise draft deals as the first week of the summit comes to an end.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad said the biggest challenge for Egypt as a host country is to have negotiators “convinced on different issues,” including securing funds for nations to adapt to climate change and reaching a consensus on “loss and damage” finance from industrialised nations to poorer, vulnerable ones who are suffering climate-related harms.

Sunday will be a rest day before the conference resumes on Monday with Water and Gender Day.

15:50 Egypt’s gas and petroleum sector signed on Saturday seven MoUs and agreements with a number of international companies on the sidelines of COP27.

13:20 US Climate Envoy John Kerry said the US, together with Germany, supports Egypt’s Nexus on Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) platform with the aim of reducing emissions, boosting renewables, and helping to reach a virtuous path to a net zero emissions world. 

The NWFE energy pillar shuts down eleven dirty old fossil fuel turbines, shifts 5 GW of gas production from Egypt to Europe, where the gas will go, which will reduce emissions, Kerry added.

He added that the US has concluded a series of partnerships in Sharm El-Sheikh to encourage action to step up climate finance.

CRSP aims to ensure that integrated climate responses contribute to sustainable peace and development in line with national ownership and context specificity. It includes several pillars four major pillars. Particular attention will be paid towards integrating the needs of women, youth and communities in vulnerable situations.

11:15 The FAST initiative, which was announced at the COP27 today, seeks to promote cooperation between relevant international initiatives, networks and alliances in order to build on firmly-established initiatives in various continents, the Egyptian agriculture minister said.

This includes AIM for Climate initiative, Global Methane Pledge and all food and agriculture outcomes of the Glasgow COP26 summit, he noted.

The initiative will be carried out within a COP-to-COP partnership and the current COP presidency will coordinate with the next presidency to ensure FAST remains high on the agenda, he said.

FAST is founded on a voluntary and collaborative process between FAO and main stakeholder groups and is based on the principles of equity and balance of constituencies
