The Egyptian Public Prosecution said on Tuesday there was no foul play in the death of Jordanian actor Ashraf Telfah, who passed away in a hospital in northern Egypt’s Giza governorate last week after he was found unconscious in his apartment.

An internal bleeding due to the advanced chronic condition of Telfah’s lungs, compounded by acute bronchitis and high blood pressure, was behind his death, the prosecution said in a statement.

Last week, the prosecution launched an investigation into the death of Telfah, 47, saying in a statement that injury marks were found in different parts of his body.

A doctor from the hospital told the prosecution at the time that Telfah was transferred to the hospital in a coma with marks of injury and traces of burns in different parts of his body.

Telfah also suffered from brain hemorrhage, blood clots, and lung infiltrate, she added.

However, a report by the Forensic Medicine Authority (FMA) proved that the injuries over Telfah’s body do not indicate any foul play, the prosecution said in today’s statement.

The injury marks were seemingly caused due to Telfah’s falling to the ground and the chest compressions given to him, the forensic report suggests.

The prosecution also did not find any traces of violence in Telfah’s home, the statement said, adding that testimonies by the deceased actor’s landlord, brother, and close friend indicated no evidence of foul play in his death.

Telfah’s death stirred controversy over the past week amid Jordanian media reports that he was assaulted and killed during his visit to Egypt.

In a statement circulated by media, the Jordanian Syndicate of Artists vowed to disclose the circumstances behind Telfah’s death and to take all necessary legal and judicial measures.

According to the syndicate’s statement, Telfah visited Egypt to complete his registration for his PhD.

Telfah, an actor and a director, took part in numerous Jordanian drama series and films since 2006, including Bawabat El-Qods (Jerusalem's Gate) and Al-Raheel (Departure).
