Cypriot National Guard chief praises Egypt as foundation of peace and stability

In a meeting with Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Osama Askar on Friday, Chief of the Cypriot National Guard Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis praised the efforts of the Egyptian Armed Forces to lay the foundation of peace and stability regionally and internationally.

The Cypriot official and his accompanying delegation are on an official visit to Egypt to attend the main stage of the MEDUSA 12 joint air and naval drill.

The meeting tackled topics related to military cooperation in various fields, read a statement by the Egyptian Military Spokesman Gharib Abdel-Hafez on Friday.

The Egyptian chief of staff asserted the deep historical relations between Egypt and Cyprus, expressing the Egyptian Armed Forces' keenness to enhance cooperation with the Cypriot Armed Force in a way that achieves the interests of both nations.

Zervakis voiced his country's pride in the level of cooperation and coordination between both countries in several fields.

Forces from Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and the US are taking part in the several-days-long training in the Mediterranean Sea.

The UAE, Bahrain, Germany, France, Morocco, Jordan, Congo and Romania are taking part in the exercise as observers.

The exercises fall within the framework of exchanging expertise and promoting military cooperation between Egypt and friendly states to face challenges in the Mediterranean region.
