The sum is 48 percent of the EGP 29 billion earmarked in the ministry's budget for overhaul projects in all 27 governorates during the 2022/2023 fiscal year, which started in July.

The projects cover electricity network extensions and upgrades and road developments, including lighting, paving, security, firefighting, and traffic management, Amna said in his statement.

The completion rate of these projects is between 35 percent and 94 percent, the minister pointed out.

The road projects aim to link villages and cities within governorates and ease the movement of citizens and goods to facilitate local trade, according to the statement.

According to the ministry's fiscal year plan, EGP 8.4 billion has been allocated to development projects in Upper Egypt and EGP 7.7 billion has been allocated for Greater Cairo (Cairo, Giza, and Qalioubiya governorates).

Some EGP 2.6 billion have been allocated to the Alexandria region (Alexandria, Beheira and Matrouh), EGP 2.7 billion for the Delta region (Damietta, Menoufiya, Gharbiya and Kafr El-Sheikh), EGP 5.5 billion for Sinai, and EGP 2.1 billion for the Suez Canal region, according to Amna.
