Egypt's population reached 104 million in early October, rising from 103 million in February, according to CAPMAS.

Cairo is the country's most populous governorate, with 10.192 million people, followed by the neighbouring Giza with 9.443 million people.

The CAPMAS stated in October that Assiut, Sohag, Qena, Minya and Beni Suef were the governorates with the highest birth rates.

Egypt’s overpopulation presents challenges to standards of living across the country. Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi previously stated in March the government is attempting to alleviate the population’s living conditions despite the rising population, warning that difficulties will “persist” should the country’s population keep “increasing at this pace.”  

According to the CAPMAS, Egypt’s population is expected to reach 192 million in 2052 should the current growth rate continue.

There were between 10-14 million Egyptians living abroad by January 2022, according to official estimates.
