WHILE the rest of the world is glued to the World Cup in Qatar, Egypt is holding its own national football cup tournament right in the middle.
Although the facts are lacking, the Egypt Cup could be the only official football tournament being staged anywhere around the globe at the same time of the 2022 World Cup in the Gulf state.
The Egypt Cup has now reached the semi-finals after Ahly defeated the Arab Contractors 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time on Sunday 27 November. The game was played one week after the World Cup started.
Defending champions Zamalek are also in the semis after defeating Masri 1-0 a day earlier.
Ahly will play Smouha in the semi-final while Zamalek will play Pyramids.
Both games are scheduled for mid-January.
The final is set for 3 February.
