The decision will be implemented through a cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the council added.

In addition, police hospitals nationwide will offer medical examinations for disabled persons and provide medical treatment if needed in the same priod for free, the council noted.

The hospitals will offer this temporary service from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.

The decision was made to mark the International Day for Disabled Persons, held annually on 3 December.

According to the latest statistics by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) in 2020, there are nearly 20 million Egyptians with special needs nationwide.

Egypt provides great care to people with disabilities, issuing many laws to support them in the recent period.

In December 2021, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi instructed the government to establish a special fund for Egyptians with special needs, asking Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the Senate, and the House of Representatives to draft a legislation to allow donations to the fund.

There are currently 4,500 NGOs in Egypt serving citizens with disabilities, according to the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
