The management of the 12th Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) has revealed the poster for this edition and a new slogan: 'Cinema is the Eternity of Time'.
The poster was designed by Mahmoud Ismail Abou Al-Enin and reflects the festival's three core components: cinema, Luxor and Africa.
“Luxor is the city of the sun and the capital of the Pharaonic civilisation, and this is reflected in the poster through the sun and the Pharaonic obedience, which is the same as the sun of Africa," the artist explained in the press release, adding that the flying balloons in the poster are among the most famous landmarks of Luxor.
The poster also carries the slogan of LAFF's 12th edition: Cinema is the Eternity of Time. This is visually expressed through the boats sailing towards the sun and to the Nile's West bank of Luxor, where funerary temples and tombs are filled with inscriptions representing ancient beliefs in eternity after death.
The 12th edition of Luxor African Film Festival is scheduled to take place from 4 to 11 February 2023.
The festival was founded by scriptwriter Sayed Fouad, who is also its president, and actress and cultural manager Azza El-Hosseiny, who is LAFF's director.
Since its founding, the festival aims to spread awareness about the importance of cinema in Africa and the world.
LAFF is organised by the Independent Shabab Foundation with the support of the Egyptian ministries of culture, tourism, antiquities, youth and sports and foreign affairs. LAFF also takes place in cooperation with Luxor governorate, the Film Syndicate, and numerous sponsors.
