Egypt's Olympic team coach Hany Ramzy
Egypt Olympic team manager Hany Ramzy has reportedly reversed his decision to release Zamalek goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawy and striker Omar Gaber, and Ahly midfielder Shehab Eldin Ahmed and defender Saad Samir, from their training camp in France to play with their respective clubs in the CAF Champions League.
The coach of the young Pharaohs, who are finalising preparations for the 2012 London Olympic Games, hesitated on his decision all week.
He had earlier agreed to release the players, but then said he needed all his squad members on the Olympic team. "Egypt is above Ahly, Zamalek and all clubs," he was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry has announced that he is waiting for the Olympic duo to join the red camp after playing Honduras friendly Thursday night.
The Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek will be played behind closed doors at Egypt's Military Academy Stadium due to lingering security concerns.
Egypt, returning to the prestigious CAF tournament for the first time in 20 years, have been drawn in Group C with the formidable Brazil, Belarus and New Zealand teams.
