According to the Public Prosecution, it received a complaint on Thursday from nurses, workers and security personnel working at Quesna Central Hospital accusing the family of a patient of assaulting and injuring them in the hospital’s gynecology section in a dispute over treatment procedures.

The prosecution added that among the accused is a military officer who is being investigated by the Military Prosecution.

On Saturday, the Egyptian Armed Forces said in a statement it was "closely following what has been raised on social media concerning the incident at Quesna Central Hospital."

The Armed Forces “affirms its full respect for the principle of the rule of law,” and "calls on everyone to strive for accuracy and wait until the investigations are completed,” the statement said.

The Public Prosecution added that it inspected the damage to medical appliances and furniture as well as CCTV recordings.

It also listened to testimony from the hospital’s head of security and security personnel.

Unauthenticated videos filmed by the nurses and staff as well as by the family of the patient of the incident were shared on social media platforms and went viral online, stirring controversy.

Both the doctors and nursing syndicates issued statements condemning the assault and declaring their full solidarity and support to the nurses.

On Saturday, Minister of Health Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar visited the hospital and met with its nursing crew, expressing his appreciation of the medical teams.

The minister also issued a directive to increase the security inside the hospital due to the large number of people who visit it.
