El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to enhance relations amid growing regional challenges, especially instability and terrorism, presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.
El-Sisi also stressed the need for solidarity in facing the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine crisis on the economy, energy and food security.
For their part, the congressmen hailed Egypt as a pillar of stability in the Middle East and the Arab region and a pivotal partner to the US in the region.
They also praised Egypt’s effective role in combating terrorism and extremist thought, reforming religious discourse, and establishing the noble values of freedom of belief, tolerance, and acceptance of others.
The congressmen “affirmed that the US will not forget Egypt’s role in opening the gate of peace and spreading the culture of coexistence in the Middle East region,” Rady said.
The congressmen also praised Egypt’s efforts in supporting the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
In this regard, El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s wish to see a fair and comprehensive solution that ensures the rights of the Palestinian people, which he said would open the horizons of peaceful coexistence and cooperation among peoples of the region.
El-Sisi also met today with leading Republican members of the US House of Representatives, who hailed the successful Egyptian efforts in countering terrorism and extremist thought and promoting religious tolerance.
El-Sisi has been in Washington since Tuesday night to participate in the three-day US-Africa Leaders Summit, which runs through Thursday with the participation of nearly 49 heads of state and senior government officials from African countries.
