In a statement, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Iraq, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
The ministry also affirmed Egypt's solidarity and support for Iraq in the face of terrorism, pointing out that such despicable acts will only increase Iraq's insistence on defeating terrorism.
At least nine members of Iraq’s federal police were killed on Sunday during an attack near Kirkuk in the country’s north, in one of the country’s deadliest attacks in recent months.
Two policemen were also wounded in the attack, officials told AFP.
A bomb detonated near a truck that was transporting the men, which was followed by “a direct attack with small arms,” near the village of Chalal Al-Matar, a federal police officer, who attributed the assault to ISIS, said on condition of anonymity.
ISIS has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
