Qatar’s 2022 World Cup third most highly attended in history

Attendance at the World Cup in Qatar was the third highest in the tournament’s history, with more than 3.1 million people attending the matches between 20 November and 18 December, according to a statement by Qatar News Agency released on Monday.

Attendance at the Qatar 2022 World Cup exceeded 3,404,252 in 60 games in comparison to the Russia 2018 World Cup that reached 3,031,768 attendees in 64 games, according to the statement

“The attendance number also passed the number of France 1998 World Cup that finished with 2,785,100 supporters. It also surpassed South Korea and Japan 2002 World Cup when fans numbers reached 2,705,197 in 64 games,” the statement added.

Attendance in Qatar came third in history across all previous World Cup tournaments, behind USA 1994 World Cup that witnessed 3,568,567 attendees and Brazil 2014 World Cup with 3,441,450.

Argentina won the 2022 World Cup title after beating France 4-2 on penalties at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium in front of 88,966 fans.
