Rain expected in parts of Egypt with onset of winter Wednesday: EMA

Light to moderate showers are expected across Lower Egypt and the North Coast Wednesday through Friday, coinciding with the start of winter, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) said in a statement on Wednesday.

There will also be a nationwide 2-3 degrees Celsius drop in temperature starting Wednesday, the EMA said in the statement, after two weeks of warm autumn weather during the daytime.

There will be 30-40 percent chance of sporadic rain Wednesday through Friday in northern Lower Egypt and the North Coast, said the EMA.

There will be also be a small chance of light rain at night in Greater Cairo and the canal cities on Tuesday.

Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt will see highs of 19-20 degrees Celsius and lows of 12-14 degrees through Sunday.

The North Coast will see highs of 19-20 degrees and lows of 14-15 degrees, according to the EMA.

The weather will remain moderately warm in northern Upper Egypt and hot in southern Upper Egypt and South Sinai during the daytime with noticeably colder temperatures at night.

Northern Upper Egypt will see highs of 20-21 degrees and lows of 8-9 degrees.

The temperature in southern Upper Egypt will drop from a high of 26 on Wednesday to 23 on Thursday, before dropping further to 21 on Sunday. Lows are expected to be around 10-12 degrees.

During the same time, South Sinai will experience highs of 23-25 and lows of 15-16 degrees.

Turbulent wind is expected throughout the week in South Sinai.
