After making history in the World Cup earlier this month, Morocco coach Walid Regragui revealed his desire to take charge of a topflight European team but dismissed rumours that Brazil was interested in his services after they were prematurely eliminated in Qatar.

“There has been no such offer from Brazil national team after the World Cup," Regragui, 47, said in response to media reports that the Selecao were interested in signing him after Morocco made it to the semifinals in Qatar.

"I closed the door for any negotiations due to my contract with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation,” Regragui, who took over as Morocco coach two months before the World Cup after the dismissal of predecessor Vahid Halilhodzic, told Moroccan sports website elbotola early on Friday.

“My dream is to please the Moroccan people by coaching a top European club,” added Regragui who played for a number of top flight French teams, including Toulouse, during his football career.

He also promised to claim the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title.

“We have more targets, starting with reaching advanced places in the World Cup as well as building a big team alongside winning the Africa Cup of Nations title,” added Regragui, who won an African Championship with the Moroccan side Wydad just months before being called on to lead the national team.

In Qatar, under his helm, the Atlas Lions provided the most improbable story of this year's World Cup, missing out on a third-place finish at the World Cup after losing 2-1 to Croatia in the bronze medal contest.

“We have to celebrate what we achieved then return to work to be ready for the Africa Cup of Nations,” the Moroccan coach added.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to be hosted by Ivory Coast, who last hosted the tournament in 1984.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) initially changed the dates of the tournament to June and July rather than the usual January, which first came into play in the 2019 tournament.
