“This comes in appreciation of her iconic role in the Golden Age of the Egyptian and Arab silver screen, during which she presented a number of important films that discussed women's issues,” stated the festival’s organisers this weekend saying that they are “honoured to announce the diva dubbed Egypt’s First Star as their first honouree”.
Starring in numerous films since the 60s, Nabila Ebeid’s remarkable works include Youssef Shahin’s ‘The Other’ (1999), ’Woman and a Cleaver’ (1996), ‘The Virgin and the White Hair’ (1983), ‘Rabaa Al-Adaweya’ (1963), ‘The Dancer and the Drummer’ (1984), ‘The Belly Dancer and the Politician’ (1990) among other important films.
The AIWFF’s 2023 edition is scheduled to take place at the great historical city of Aswan between 5 and 10 March.
Applications open for Workshops
Various opportunities are currently available for workshops that will be held as part of the Aswan International Women Film Festival’s 7th edition.
Until 20 January, the festival is receiving applications for five workshops and programs; namely, the New Aswan Cinema Project Program, Film Project Development Workshop, Screenwriting, Animation for Adults and Animation for Children.
Eligible applicants should register through the festival’s official website.
The AIWFF is sponsored by a number of public and private entities including the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, Aswan Governorate and other partners.
In the sixth edition held in February, over 34 films were screened. The festival honoured Egyptian actress Sawsan Badr, director Inaam Mohamed Aly, French actress and director Marilyne Canto, and Somali political strategist Hibaaq Osman.
