School theatres initiative meant to scout for new talents: Egypt's education ministry

Egypt’s Ministry of Education and Technical Education launched an initiative this week to revive theatre activities in schools across the country.

“The initiative is meant to discover talents and sponsor them,” education ministry spokesman Shadi Zalata told MENA news agency on Monday morning.

The education ministry is cooperating with the culture ministry, leading production company United Media Services (UMS), and Madrasetna channel in the initiative.

“The ministry seeks to develop sports, artistic and cultural school activities to build the cultural and intellectual aspects of the students' character,” added Zalata, highlighting the “fruitful cooperation with the culture ministry which will help promising talents to have a chance to perform in national theatres.”

The initiative was opened with Te’dar (You Can) show at the Cairo Opera House on Saturday and Monday.

Written by Medhat El-Adl and directed by Batoul Arafa, Te’dar stars many renowned actors including Yousra, Carole Samaha, Akram Hosni, Hanan Motawei, and Mohamed Farrag.

The play was attended by Minister for Sports and Youth Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Culture Nevine El-Kilani, Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel-Aal, and other education, art, and culture personas.
