In a statement on Monday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs voiced its confidence that the Sudanese parties would reach a final and comprehensive political deal to end the transitional period and achieve the Sudanese people's aspirations.

The ministry called on all regional and international parties to resume their development and economic aid to Sudan to enable the country to tackle its challenges.

This would reflect positively on the standard of living of the Sudanese people and contribute to achieving comprehensive political consensus in the country, the ministry added.

The tripartite mechanism of the African Union, the United Nations and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) announced on Sunday the launch of the final phase of the political process in Sudan to reach a final deal on the two-year transitional period.

The final phase has been launched by the military components and the various civilian political forces that signed the political framework deal last month with the aim of setting up a transitional civilian authority until elections are held.

The political process seeks to end a political impasse in the country that has lasted since the October 2021 military takeover.

Issues that will be discussed during the final stage of the political process include transitional justice and security and military reform, according to Sudan’s official news agency SUNA.

Egypt has voiced its full support for Sudan’s political framework deal, praising it as an “important and pivotal step to lay down the principles for the structure of governance in Sudan.”
