The seventh edition of My Favorite Things, an exhibition held at the Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art in downtown Cairo will feature works by 20 female artists

All Favorite Things

As the gallery explains, the exhibition aims to “guarantee for women to have a permanent and safe space, for exposure and free expression, maintaining a high artistic quality based on originality and innovative thought.”

Held at the Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art in downtown Cairo, the exhibition has no restriction on themes and ranges between many art formats.

This year's selection includes 20 female artists, most of them participating for the first time, presenting to the viewers a plethora of works testifying to the contemporary art in Egypt.

The first edition launched in 2016 with works by three women, proving to be one of the most successful shows of the season.

The exhibition has been repeated in consecutive years, each time growing in several artists and works, becoming an inclusive annual exhibition promoting and supporting up-and-coming women artists in Egypt.

The exhibition’s second edition in 2017 hosted four artists working in multimedia that fused drawing, painting and graphic design.

Another four artists showcased their works in the third edition (2018), this time creating a spotlight on upcycled artworks. The works were experiments with paper, cardboard, glass and wood, and together the artists complemented each other to create a landscape of a city and forest.

As the exhibition began echoing among the female artists and viewers at large, My Favorite Things 5, held in 2020, brought together 19 artists working in paintings, drawings, collages and installations.

The exhibition will launch on 15 January at Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art, 15 Mahmoud Bassiouny Street, Downtown Cairo.
