President Sisi to arrive in New Delhi Tuesday to participate as chief guest at Indian Republic Day

Egypt's President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is scheduled to land in New Delhi, India on Tuesday for a three-day visit, where he will take part – for the first time ever – in the South Asian country’s 74th Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest, India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Saturday.

The Egyptian president will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including five ministers and senior officials, at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

A military contingent from Egyptian army will also participate in the Republic Day's parade, according to the Indian foreign ministry.

El-Sisi will be accorded a ceremonial welcome at the presidential residence on Wednesday by Indian President Droupadi Murmu.

The Indian president will also host a state banquet in El-Sisi’s honour the same day.

El-Sisi is set to hold a bilateral meeting and delegation-level talks with the Indian prime minister on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. A business event with with Indian business community is also set to be held, the Indian ministry pointed out.

The ministry added that both nations "enjoy warm and friendly relations marked by civilisational, cultural and economic linkages and deep-rooted people-to-people ties," which are based on a commitment to foster economic growth and collaborate in the fields of defence and security and a convergence of views on regional and global issues.

The two countries work closely at multilateral and international platforms, it added.

Trade exchange between Egypt and India achieved a record high of $7.26 billion in FY2021/22, with $3.74 billion in Indian exports to Egypt and $3.52 billion imports from Egypt to India.

More than 50 Indian companies have invested around $3.15 billion in diverse sectors of Egyptian economy, including chemicals, energy, textile, garment, agri-business, retail, etc, according to figures released by the Indian government.

On Saturday, Egypt's Ministry of Trade and Industry said the volume of trade exchange of non-petroleum products between Egypt and India hit nearly $4.1 billion dollars during the first 11 months of 2022, including Egyptian exports at $723 million.

India is Egypt’s third largest export market, sixth largest trading partner and seventh largest importer, according to Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

El-Sisi's visit is expected to further strengthen and deepen the time-tested partnership between India and Egypt, the Indian statement added.

Egypt and India are celebrating 75 years of of diplomatic relations this year.

Egypt has also been invited as a guest country during India’s year-long presidency of the G20 intergovernmental forum that started in December 2022.

​This will be El-Sisi’s third visit to India. He previously visited India in October 2015 to participate in the third India-Africa Forum Summit and in September 2016 on a state visit.
