In a speech delivered in French, the musician expressed his happiness performing in Egypt, a country that he had already visited – and performed in – on several occasions.
His most recent concert in Cairo was in February 2020 when he performed at the Al-Manara International Convention Centre's stage. He also held an exclusive concert in Egypt in 2016 in celebration of the 40-year anniversary of his unique career.
However, this is the first time Clayderman has performed a charity concert in Cairo.
The pianist also pointed out that when Dr. Hisham El-Ghazali, professor of clinical oncology at Ain Shams University and head of the BGICC, invited him to participate in a charity event for cancer patients, he did not hesitate to agree, highlighting the idea that music gives us strength and patience, especially those fighting disease.
Dr. El-Ghazali stressed that for the conference participants, the presence of the French pianist was an important part of the charity event.
The profits from the conference are dedicated to supporting and enhancing the life of patients suffering from the disease.
The French artist presented 14 musical pieces, most of them being the audience favourites. The repertoire included Sortie April’s Theme, Titanic, My Toy, and You Raise Me Up. Moreover, he presented a medley on Paris and another one on the best-known music tracks.
The concert was attended by many members of the breast gynecological and immunooncology community, alongside renowned celebrities including actors Hussein Fahmy, Mahmoud Hemida, actresses Boshra and Salwa Mohamed Ali, among others.
The 'Prince of Romance', born Philippe Pagès, has had a career spanning 40 years of music.
After studying at the Conservatoire de Paris, his career kicked off in 1976, when record producers Olivier Toussaint and Paul de Senneville selected him to record a gentle piano ballad for de Senneville’s baby daughter.
Ballade Pour Adeline (Ballad for Adeline) went on to sell 22 million copies in 38 countries, earning Clayderman international acclaim.
He has since recorded over 1,300 melodies, and has established a signature style which combines his trademark originals with classics and pop standards. His record sales are over 150 million, with 267 gold and 70 platinum albums.
