The intelligence directors delivered a message of support and solidarity from Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II for Abbas, Palestine, and its people to achieve security and stability in all Palestinian regions.

The messages also voiced concern for security and stability in the region.

Abbas stressed the need for continuous coordination with the Egyptian and Jordanian sides in this regard, hailing the two countries’ efforts to stand by the Palestinian people and their just cause, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

The directors’ visit to Ramallah comes two weeks after the leaders of the three countries met in Cairo and called for a halt of Israel's illegitimate, unilateral actions that undermine the two-state solution and the chances for fair and comprehensive peace.

The visit also comes amid heightened Israeli-Palestinian tensions since the new far-right government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to power in late December.

On Friday, Israeli jets launched strikes against Gaza, escalating tensions and fears a few months after Israel launched one of its deadliest raids in years in the occupied West Bank in August.

Israel’s assault on Gaza comes amid violence it has perpetrated in the West Bank over the past days, killing many Palestinians, including a deadly raid on Jenin refugee camp on Thursday.

Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians and injured scores during the raid on Jenin camp. In response, a Palestinian gunman opened fire outside an East Jerusalem synagogue on Friday night, killing at least seven and wounding several people in one of the deadliest attacks on Israelis in years.

Palestinian officials called the Israeli raid on the camp a “massacre” and the Palestinian Authority announced suspending security coordination with Israeli in response.

Egypt has called for the Israeli and Palestinian sides to exercise “maximum self-restraint” after the Jerusalem shooting.

Egypt warned against “slipping into a vicious cycle of violence that worsens the political and humanitarian situation and undermines efforts to achieve calm and all chances of reviving the peace process” in a foreign ministry statement.

The Egyptian president stressed the need for both sides to refrain from unilateral measures as he received on Monday US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the first leg of his Middle East tour that included Israel and Ramallah.

El-Sisi underlined to Blinken Egypt's constant stance on the need to reach a comprehensive and fair solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people according to international standards in a manner that solves the conflict to allow peace, stability, cooperation, and growth.

Over the past years, Egypt has worked on maintaining calm between the Palestinian and Israeli sides. Israeli assaults on Gaza in 2021 and again on the West Bank in 2022 killed hundreds of Palestinians, with Egypt helping the two sides reach a ceasefire in both conflicts.
