According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called on Monday his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu and extended his condolences to the government and people of Turkey for the victims of the quake that hit southeastern Turkey killing over 1000 and injuring 1000 others according to latest estimations.

During the call, Shoukry announced that the Egyptian government was sending urgent relief aid to Turkey in a show of solidarity with the Turkish state and Turkish people as they face this catastrophe. Shoukry also expressed his wishes for the success of the current search and rescue operations in the country.

Cavusoglu, for his part, expressed his appreciation for Egypt's solidarity with Turkey as it faces this disaster.

Shoukry also made a telephone call to his Syrian counterpart Faisal El-Mekdad to offer condolences to the victims of the horrific quake that hit Syria early Monday morning.

During the call, Shoukry told his counterpart that the Egyptian government has decided to send relief aid in solidarity with the Arab Republic of Syria to help the Syrian state and the Syrian people face the repercussions of the quake that killed hundreds and injured thousands in Northern Syria alone.

El-Mekdad, for his part, expressed his appreciation and thanks for Egypt’s support in the face of this disaster.

A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake rocked southeastern Turkey and northern Syria early Monday, toppling hundreds of buildings and killing more than 2,300 people.

Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi expressed earlier Egypt's "full solidarity" with the people of Syria and Turkey as well as the country's readiness to provide aid to face the impacts of the deadly earthquake.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said in a statement that Egypt is ready to provide assistance to help both Syria and Turkey face the horrifying impacts of the deadly earthquake that struck both countries as well as a number of eastern Mediterranean countries.

Egypt’s embassies in Syria and Turkey have launched on Monday hotlines for Egyptians in both countries to report any damage or call for help following the deadly earthquake that hit both countries.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid released online the hotline numbers of both embassies.
