Khaled Dagher appointed new chairman of the Cairo Opera House

Egypt's Minister of Culture Nevine El-Kilani appointed musician Khaled Dagher as the new chairman of the Cairo Opera House, succeeding Magdy Saber, a ballet artist, who led the opera since 2018.

Dagher's appointment brings back a musician as chairman of the Cairo Opera after Ines Abdel Dayem, a flutist who held the post till 2018.

Son of internationally renowned Egyptian violinist Abdo Dagher (1936-2021), he studied cello at the Cairo Conservatory, graduating in 1992 and completing his PhD in 2007.

For many years, Dagher performed with the national orchestra and travelled extensively.

He also taught cello at the Cairo Conservatory.

Dagher has composed music to numerous films and television series, including Cairo-Kabul (2021), Without Evidence (2019) and Ard El-Nefaaq (2018), among others.

Prior to this appointment, Dagher was in charge of the artistic house at the opera.
