Ayman Abdel-Meguid, the syndicate's secretary-general, said that applications will be open until 15 February.

Upon completion, final lists of candidates will be announced, Abdel-Meguid in a statement.

He reiterated the utmost keenness of the chairman and the board on holding the elections under judicial supervision.

A quorum of more than 25 percent must be present for the elections to be held.

The previous election was held in April 2021 in a spacious, open-air venue at the Teachers Club in Cairo’s El-Gezira district over coronavirus concerns.

The vote was initially scheduled for 19 March, but the government rejected the syndicate's proposal to hold the elections in tents erected outside the syndicate's headquarters in downtown Cairo.

In the 2021 elections, Diaa Rashwan was reelected for a second term as head of the syndicate.

It was not announced where this year’s elections will be held.
