Mohamed Ramadan from a shot of his new TV series 'Gaafar El Omda'
This weekend, the 34-year-old actor shared three promos for the upcoming show, garnering several million views and interactions.
The action-drama is directed by Mohamed Samy, who also wrote the series in collaboration with Mohab Tarek.
It also stars Zeina, Hala Sedki, Eman El Assi, Mai Kassab, Menna Fadali, Ahmed Dash, and Mondher Rayahneh.
Produced by Egyptian production companies United Media Service and MediaHub, Gaafar El Omda will be available during the Ramadan season on Egyptian streaming service WatchIt and Saudi’s Shahid VIP. It will also exclusively air on Egyptian TV channel DMC and Saudi’s MBC.
Mohamed Ramadan has had huge commercial success on TV during the busy holy month with successive huge hits like Ibn Halal, El-Ostora, Nesr El-Said, Zelzal, El-Price and last year’s Malhamet Moussa, which gained notable critical appreciation.
Since his 2009 award-winning role in Yousry Nasrallah’s Ehky Ya Shahrazad, Ramadan has become a box-office hero in Egypt and the region with many controversial films.
Although many of his films have been criticised as violent, like Abdo Mouta, El-Almany, Qalb El-Asad and El-Diesel, he has also starred in comedy films like Wahed Saidi and Akher Deek Fi Masr. He also starred in Sherif Arafa’s two-part El-Kenz.
Ramadan has also starred in theatre comedy show Ahlan Ramadan, directed by Khaled Galal.
He is also a controversial mahraganat hit-maker, releasing a large collection of singles that has gained billions of streams collectively on all platforms.
The actor, who was honoured during the 12th Luxor African Film Festival last month, will also premiere his new film Harley, featuring Mahmoud Hemieda, in Eid El-Fitr after Ramadan.
During his career, Ramadan has frequently been a source of controversy with his artistic content and his personal behaviour.
The Muslim holy month, which will start on 22 March this year, traditionally sees a major spike in TV viewership. This season will see a huge collection of stars competing in over 30 Egyptian TV shows on all channels.
