"This is important to reflect the current strategic partnership between the two countries," said El-Gebaly, adding that "parliamentary relations between the two countries will be boosted in the coming stage in the form of exchanging visits and coordinating on legislations."

The move came on the sidelines of the 146th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly being held in Manama, Bahrain between 11 and 15 March, 2023.

"Egypt is proud of its historical relations with India and is keen to reinforce these relations all the time and in all fields," said El-Gebaly, 

Referring to president El-Sisi's visit to India last January, El-Gebaly said that "the most positive result of this visit is that it put the relations between the two countries at the level of strategic partnership".

Gebaly and Birla also discussed challenges facing both Egypt and India.

"We reviewed the threats of terrorism and extremism and the importance of cooperation between our two countries to stand up to this challenge," said El-Gebaly.

For his part, India's speaker Om Birla said "President El-Sisi's visit to India last January opened new horizons of cooperation between Egypt and India."

"India has excellent relations with Egypt and the two countries are coordinating in all fields, including political, economic, security and military areas and as part of the strategic partnership between them," said Birla.

Egypt and India agreed to elevate their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership on all levels, according to a joint statement on the occasion of President El-Sisi's visit to New Delhi in January during which he attended the public celebrations of India's 74th Republic Day as chief guest of honour.

“By doing so, the two sides seek to maximise the common interests and exchange support in a bid to overcome the difficulties caused by various consecutive crises and challenges the world is facing,” the statement read.
