Ahly secure place in the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup

Egyptian side Ahly have secured their place in the 2025 World Cup, after the Federation of International Football (FIFA) announced on Tuesday their criteria for naming the participants.

The Football governing body increased the number of participants to 32 teams instead of eight as the annual competition will be played every four years as of June of 2025.

‘’For confederations with four slots: access for the champions of the previous four editions (2021-2024) of the confederation’s premier club competition,” read a statement in the FIFA official website on Tuesday.

Consequently Ahly who won the 2021 CAF Champions League secured their place in the world competition alongside Moroccan side Wydad de Casablanca who won the 2022 edition.

The ten-time African champions, have eight participations in the World competition with their best achievement having won the bronze medal in 2006, 2020 and 2021.

Their last participation saw the club end fourth after losing to Brazilian side Flamengo 4-2 last February.
