'Percy Tau is roaring again at Ahly,' South Africa coach Hugo Broos said ahead of South Africa's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Liberia.

Tau has rediscovered his form at Ahly under coach Marcel Koller after struggling with injuries during his first year at the club. The attacking midfielder has scored in Ahly's last two Champions League group-stage games.

"I think Percy, little by little, is again at his best level," the Belgium coach said before the game.

"Before last year, he looked like he had 50kg on each leg. Now he is fresh and he takes action. He is the Percy Tau I like and that I know from Belgium."

After success in Belgium with Club Brugge and Anderlecht, Tau joined Ahly from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021.

However his spell has been mired by injuries until only the beginning of this year.

"It is normal, He is playing and he is decisive also," Broos said. "He scored here against Sundowns and against Coton Sport and made a few assists."

Tau was in South Africa's starting lineup against Liberia on Friday and earned a penalty in the ninth minute that was converted by Foster. But the Bafana Bafana were frustrated by a late draw by the Liberians 2-2 to jeopardize their hopes of qualification to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Morocco are leading Group K with 6 points while Liberia and South Africa have each one point after two games.
