Strong winds, airborne sand and dense clouds are likely to hang in the sky throughout the day, especially over the Red Sea and Upper Egypt governorates.

A chance of rainfall and thunderstorms will continue today in the country's east, including the Suez Canal cities, Sharqiya and Sinai, the EMA warned.

However, the worst of the bad weather has passed, with several areas across the country on Friday witnessing mild to moderate rainfall, lightning and thunder, the EMA reported.

The inclement weather is expected to persist throughout the coming week, according to the EMA.

On Saturday, Greater Cairo and the Nile Delta will see highs of 21 degrees Celsius and lows of 13 degrees, while the North Coast and Sinai will see highs of 19 degrees and lows of 14 degrees.

Northern Upper Egypt, including Beni Suef, Fayoum and Minya, will see highs of 24 degrees and lows of 11 degrees

Meanwhile, Qena, Luxor, Aswan and Sohag in southern Upper Egypt will see highs of up to 29 degrees and lows of 15 degrees.

Governorates on alert

The Ministry of Local Development instructed governorates to be ready for the inclement weather, particularly in case of heavy rainfall.

The necessary equipment is stationed along public roads and highways to confront weather fluctuations, the ministry clarified in a statement on Saturday.

Municipal authorities nationwide, especially in coastal cities, have already deployed vacuum trucks in areas most affected by rainfall to drain rainwater and assist in smoothing traffic, according to the ministry.

The statement also noted that the ministry's operations room is working around the clock in coordination with the cabinet's Information and Decision Support Centre and the operations rooms across the country's 27 governorates to deal with any emergency crisis and receive all citizens' complaints.
