“The Israeli occupation government is trying to drag the region into the cycle of violence and escalation by ramping up its war against our Palestinian people, and by escalating murders, arson attacks and incursions into the holy sites,” Abu Rudeineh said.

He urged regional and international parties “to intervene, curb and press the government of extremism in Israel to stop the escalating attacks by its army and settlers during the holy month of Ramadan."

The Palestinian high official also condemned the Israeli raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem citing the physical assault of Palestinian worshipers by Israeli police.

Also condemned were the actions of  four Israeli settlers on Sunday who in the very early hours of the morning threw incendiary bottles setting fire to a Palestinian-owned house in the town of Sinjil, in the Ramallah province.

Abu Rudeineh added that de-escalation was necessary "before an explosion of the situation in the region, the consequences of which will be borne by the Israeli government alone.”

Earleir, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine, has strongly condemned the Israeli raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

He desribed the eviction of worshipers as a “severely dangerous attack on the sentiments and beliefs of Muslims,” adding that the Israeli escalation “aims at achieving the interests of extremist settler groups that seek a religious war in the region.”
