“I have directed the government and concerned state agencies to study this proposal and its implementation mechanisms,” President El-Sisi wrote on his official Facebook account.

On Sunday, the Board of Trustees of the National Dialogue called for renewing the 10-year- legislation which regulates the work of the National Election Authority (NEA) to renew judicial supervision over all elections and referendums, which is set to expire in January 2024.

The trustee board said it will submit a draft law containing the suggested amendment to President El-Sisi in order that it be referred to the country's House of Representatives for approval.

The NEA is tasked with organising and managing elections and referendums nationwide.

Full judicial supervision over polling, referendums and elections is stipulated in the country's constitution and regulated by the NEA law.

President El-Sisi stated in his post that he followed with interest the Board of Trustees session and expressed "appreciation for the continuous work of the loyal sons of Egypt who seek dialogue and discussion for the sake of our dear Egypt."

Egypt is scheduled to hold its next presidential elections in mid-2024, while parliamentary elections are to be held in 2025.

From his side, the General Coordinator of the National Dialogue Diaa Rashwan expressed thanks - on behalf of himself and the trustees board - for the president's "generous and quick response" to the board's proposal and for directing the government and the concerned authorities in the state to study this proposal and its executive mechanisms.
